Watering Requirements
Hydrangeas love water, so newly planted shrubs need frequent watering, often 2-3 times a week or daily in hot weather to establish strong roots, while established in-ground plants only need a deep soaking 1-2 times a week. Containers always dry out faster and require daily checking, often needing a thorough watering almost every single day during the summer heat. Water containers thoroughly until water seeps out the drainage holes to ensure roots deep in the container get watered. Always water deeply at the base to keep leaves dry and prevent disease!
Sunlight Requirements
Thrives in full sun to partial shade. Unlike most other hydrangeas, panicle hydrangeas are highly sun tolerant and can flourish in full sun in northern climates. In hotter southern climates, they appreciate a little more protection, preferably morning sun and afternoon shade.
Humidity Requirements
Prefers moderate to high humidity. Hydrangea thrive in coastal or naturally humid environments, but if you live in a very arid, dry climate, they will need extra afternoon shade and a thick layer of mulch to keep the surrounding air and soil from drying out too fast.
Pet-Friendly Plant?
No, this plant is not recommended in homes with pets.

Frequently Asked Questions
When and how do you prune a Vanilla Strawberry Hydrangea?
Prune in late winter or early spring before new growth appears by cutting the plant back by roughly one-third of its total height. Because they bloom on new wood, spring pruning will not remove this year's flowers. During pruning, trim away thin twigs and dead wood near the base to encourage thick, sturdy stems that can support heavy blooms. Avoid fall pruning so the dried flower heads can protect the plant's structure over the winter.

Why are my Vanilla Strawberry Hydrangea stems flopping over?
Vanilla Strawberry is famous for producing enormous flower heads (up to 12 inches long!). When heavy summer rains soak these dense blooms, young or unpruned branches bend under the weight. Hard pruning by one-third every spring forces the plant to develop thicker, woodier stems capable of holding the heavy flower panicles upright.
