Watering Requirements
Hydrangeas love water, so newly planted shrubs need frequent watering, often 2-3 times a week or daily in hot weather to establish strong roots, while established in-ground plants only need a deep soaking 1-2 times a week. Containers always dry out faster and require daily checking, often needing a thorough watering almost every single day during the summer heat. Water containers thoroughly until water seeps out the drainage holes to ensure roots deep in the container get watered. Always water deeply at the base to keep leaves dry and prevent disease!
Sunlight Requirements
Thrives in partial shade, preferably morning sun and afternoon shade. They can tolerate full sun in northern climates, but they should be protected from afternoon sun in southern climates.
Humidity Requirements
Prefers moderate to high humidity. Hydrangea thrive in coastal or naturally humid environments, but if you live in a very arid, dry climate, they will need extra afternoon shade and a thick layer of mulch to keep the surrounding air and soil from drying out too fast.

How do I change the bloom color of my Endless Summer Hydrangea?
A quick soil test can help you determine the pH level that controls your flower color. If your soil is acidic with a pH below 6.0, your plant will produce blue blooms, while alkaline soil above 6.0 yields pink blooms. You can easily change your colors by mixing aluminum sulfate, composted coffee grounds, pine needles, or oak leaves into the soil for blue blooms, or adding garden lime or fertilizer with high phosphorus to encourage pink blooms instead.
Why does my Endless Summer Hydrangea rebloom when other varieties don’t?
Endless Summer hydrangeas are wonderful because they bloom on both old wood and "new wood" (the current season's fresh growth). This unique trait ensures a continuous cycle of new flowers from early summer until the first frost.
How far apart should I space Endless Summer Hydrangeas when planting?
Because this original variety matures to 3-5 feet tall and wide, your spacing depends entirely on your landscape goals. For a continuous hedge, space your shrubs 3.5 feet apart from the center of each plant so they grow together seamlessly. If you prefer individual accent shrubs, space them 5-8 feet apart to give them breathing room and distinct shapes.
When and how should I prune my Endless Summer Hydrangea?
Feel free to lightly deadhead spent flower heads throughout the season. Beyond that, the best practice is to leave the stems (and even some of the flowers!) alone through the winter. In mid-spring, wait until the plant begins to leaf out, then simply thin the plant by removing any dead, brittle wood that shows no signs of green growth. That's it!
Why is my healthy-looking hydrangea not blooming?
If your hydrangea is all leaves and no flowers, the most common culprits are sun exposure, over-watering, or over-fertilizing. Depending on your region, these plants thrive best in morning sun with dappled afternoon shade, as intense full sun can get too hot for buds to form. Additionally, giving them too much water or fertilizer will actually stunt bloom production. Instead, aim to keep the soil moist but never soggy, and stick to just one application of fertilizer in the spring or early summer.
